Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup semisweet chocolate chips, plus more if you want

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment.
  2. Mix the cocoa, sugar, melted butter, and oil. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir the dry together first, then mix just until a dough forms. Fold in the chips.
  4. Scoop 1–2 tablespoons per cookie. Press them as thick or thin as you want.
  5. Bake 10–12 minutes. They come out soft and firm up as they cool — don’t overbake. Cool 10 minutes on the sheet, then move to a rack.
